Building in Public

Why I'm Building This in Public

I've been active on Reddit for years, and like many of you, I've struggled with engagement. I'd spend time crafting what I thought was a great comment, only to get 2 upvotes. Meanwhile, someone else's seemingly simple comment would get hundreds.

After getting a few comments removed for "self-promotion" or "low effort," I started wondering: What if I could learn from my own Reddit history? What if I could see patterns in what works and what doesn't?

So I built MyRedBuddy for myself. I analyzed my own comments, found my best-performing tones, and started using that knowledge. My engagement improved. But then I thought—why keep this to myself?

Building in public means:

  • Transparency: You see exactly how it works. No black boxes, no hidden tracking.
  • Community: Your feedback shapes the product. Found a bug? Open an issue. Want a feature? Let's discuss it.
  • Learning: I'm sharing my journey—the wins, the mistakes, the pivots. Maybe it helps someone else build their thing.
  • Trust: Everything is open source. You can audit the code, fork it, or run it yourself. No vendor lock-in.

MyRedBuddy runs 100% locally. Your Reddit data never leaves your machine. I don't track you. I don't sell your data. I don't even have analytics on this landing page.

This is a tool I built for myself, and I'm sharing it because I believe in building tools that respect users. If it helps you improve your Reddit engagement, that's a win. If you contribute code or ideas, that's even better.
